Partly on account of his role as first chairman of the Biella section of C.A.I Domenico Vallino became a great friend of Vittorio Sella with whom he published a book entitled: “Monte Rosa and Gressoney” in 1890. Photographs by Vallino were published in : “Il Biellese” edited in 1898 by C.A.I. Other pictures of great ethnographic interest were displayed at the exhibition on Italian Ethnography held in Rome in 1911. The Sella Foundation conserves about 30 plates on the subject of mountaineering and the mountains of the Biellese and the Val d’ Aosta with a particular focus on the ethnic customs of the local populations.
