Receiver of the Royal lottery he moved to Biella in 1870. He became the first secretary of the Biellese branch of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) in 1872, at the head of which the following year he published the “Guida per gite ed escursioni nel Biellese” (“Guide to walks and excursions in the Biellese”). He was also chairman of the CAI of Biella from 1894 to 1899, and later director. He was in charge of the library of the Professional School of Biella in 1879, mayor of the town from 1898 to 1901, and managing director of the Sanctuary of Oropa until 1911. As well as mountains, he loved drawing and ethnology and some of his pictures on this subject were selected by Alessandro Roccavilla to be displayed at the Exhibition of Italian Ethnograhy in Rome in 1911.
